I have a love/hate relationship with Ferris Wheels and I find from time to time that I have to get my fear factor in check. Thus was the case last night and the inspiration for this blog. Yes, you read correctly. Fear factor. It is a little like being afraid of a teddy bear gerbil.
I love to look at Ferris Wheels, but I am always amazed that I have this eager, no overwhelming desire to ride one. Every time as soon as that rocking seat starts to move I have immediate buyers remorse and inside my head I am screaming "let me outa here!"
But, I always ride start to finish although I do have to close my eyes as the seat starts to crest the top of the wheel. Then and only then I open my eyes up for the trip down. Sounds crazy. On this particular occasion we had a Ferris Wheel operator named Steve who has been spinning families round and round on Ferris Wheels for 35 years. I could not have been in better hands. Just think about that many years. I wonder what the calculation would be for how many times he has sent the wheel turning. Thanks Steve for all the memories you have given untold throngs of folks.
